Significant technical contributions to research and development activities relative to the sustainability of products, processes, or the environment.
Congratulations
Professor Aldo Steinfeld is the recipient of the Sustainable Engineering Research Award 2022 by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, for pioneering and visionary contributions in renewable energy carriers, and leadership in clean energy research and education, and solar power technologies.
He is full professor at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich and chair of Renewable Energy Carriers (PREC).
His research programme is aimed at the advancement of the thermal and chemical engineering sciences applied to renewable energy technologies. His fundamental research focusses on high-temperature heat/mass transfer phenomena, multi-phase reacting flows, thermochemistry and functional redox materials. These are applied in the development of technologies for concentrated solar power and solar fuels production, direct air capture of CO2 and its utilization, energy storage and carbon-neutral sustainable energy systems.
Furthermore, he is a founding member of the CSFM and contributes to the Mobility Initiative program with a project on sustainable fuels in cooperation with AMAG and SBB.
